Question: How much RSO should I take?
Answer: Using cannabis is completely relative to each person’s unique biology and life circumstances. When embarking on the journey of supplementing with RSO each person must have dedication to personal experimentation. Dosage is dependent on each individual person and their needs at the time. There are many variables that will affect your experience.
First, all people have a naturally occurring cannabinoid system within our bodies called our Endogenous Cannabinoid System (ECS). To learn more about the ECS, see the Endocannabinoid Blog series. The needs of each person’s ECS will be different at different times.
Second, tolerance is an issue to consider. If you are not already a cannabis user, you will want to start with the absolute lowest suggested dose. Then as your body becomes adjusted to the cannabinoid intake, you can increase your dosage and frequency to meet your own individual needs.
Third, take into consideration your own personal health circumstances. From recreational use to disease management: each person’s needs will vary. We always suggest that everyone begin with a low dose, perhaps even lower than you might think appropriate, and work your way up to find the desired effect.
All RSO is going to have a different potency. Anecdotal suggestions for beginner’s dose of RSO being taken out of the oral syringe are as follows:
- Never used cannabis – occasional cannabis user: ⅓ of a grain of rice
- Mild to Moderate Cannabis User: ½ of a grain of rice
- Heavy Cannabis User: ½ – 1 grain of rice
In my blog Consuming RSO:101 I go over the process to turn your RSO into an oil based tincture. There are many reasons I find this to be the most effective way to consume RSO. First and foremost, you take control of your dosage. Consuming RSO directly out of an oral syringe does not permit you to know how many milligrams of cannabinoids you are intaking. When you dilute your entire gram of RSO into one ounce of oil, as I suggest in the Consuming RSO:101, you will be able to measure how many milligrams of cannabinoids you are intaking. This allows for a much more specific dosing protocol. In the state of Oregon one recreational dose is considered 5 mg of THC. There is no state standard for one dose of CBD. Certainly, one dose of THC can be both much higher and much lower for a person depending on their own unique biology and situation at the time. I suggest using a journal to log how many milligrams of each cannabinoid you are ingesting at what time of day to track your results.
Question: How frequently should I take RSO?
Answer: Frequency of RSO dosage is subjective and depends on your individual needs. You need to know if your goal is to keep your Endocannabinoid System consistently stimulated or if you only want to supplement at certain times of the day. Depending your own personal circumstances, your answer will be different. For example, if I am having trouble sleeping, I will take only one dose right before bed.
